Overview - Milwaukee

Located on the western shore of Lake Michigan, Milwaukee is the seat of Milwaukee County and the largest city by population in Wisconsin. It has approximately 590,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2019. The Milwaukee metropolitan area (Milwaukee-Waukesha) comprised 1,575,179 residents as of the 2019 US Census Bureau Estimate.


Milwaukee has two modern streetcar services and an arterial bus rapid transit service.

The Hop Streetcar

Opened 2018, The Hop consists of two modern streetcar services that serves the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

M-Line

The Hop M-Line is a modern streetcar service on a northeast-southwest alignment. It runs from Burns Commons in the northeast to Milwaukee Intermodal Station in the southwest via Downtown Milwaukee, serving 10 stations.


The M-Line was opened in November 2018. The M-Line is owned by the City of Milwaukee.

L-Line

The Hop L-Line is a modern streetcar service on a T-shaped alignment. It runs from downtown Milwaukee to the Lakefront, serving 5 stations of which three are served in a single direction only.


The L-Line was opened in October 2023, initially running exclusively on Sundays due to adjacent construction. All week service and the extension to the Lakefront began April 2024. The L-Line is owned by the City of Milwaukee.

Connect

Opened 2023, Connect consists of a single arterial bus rapid transit service that serves the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

CONNECT 1 (Wisconsin Ave BRT)

CONNECT 1, also known as the Wisconsin Ave BRT or the East-West BRT, is an arterial bus rapid transit service on an east-west alignment. It runs from Watertown Plank Park and Ride in the west to The Couture in the east along Blue Mound Rd and Wisconsin Ave, serving 18 stations.


CONNECT 1 was opened in June 2023. The last extension was to The Couture in June 2024.
