Overview - Valparaíso-Viña del Mar

Located on the Pacific Ocean, Valparaíso is the capital of and second largest city in Valparaíso. It has 296,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2017. To the northeast, Viña del Mar is the largest city in Valparaíso. It has 334,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2017. The Valparaíso metropolitan area comprised 952,000 residents as of the 2017 INE census.


Valparaíso and Viña del Mar's rapid transit network consists of a single urban mainline rail service.

EFE Valparaíso

Opened 2005, EFE Valparaíso (formerly Metro Valparaíso) consists of an urban mainline rail service that serves the cities of Valparaíso and Viña del Mar, Valparaíso and the surrounding suburbs.

Tren Limache-Puerto

The Tren Limache-Puerto is an urban mainline rail service on an East-West alignment. It runs from Puerto in the west to Limache in the east via Viña del Mar, serving 20 stations.


The Tren Limache-Puerto was refurbished and opened in its current form in November 2005 as Metro Valparaíso. The last expansion was the opening of Valencia (for all-day service) in January 2026. The Tren Limache-Puerto is operated by EFE Valparaíso.
