Overview - Santiago de los Caballeros

Located on the Yaque del Norte River in the central of the Cibao region, Santiago de los Caballeros is the capital of Santiago Province and the second largest city by population in the Dominican Republic. It has approximately 771,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2022. The Santiago metropolitan area comprised 852,361 residents as of the 2022 ONE census estimate.


Santiago's rapid transit network consists of a gondola lift service.

Teleférico de Santiago

Opened 2024, the Teleférico de Santiago consists of a gondola lift services that serves the southwestern part of the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, Santiago.

Line 1

Line 1 of the Teleférico de Santiago is a gondola lift service on a North-South alignment. It runs from Terminal Central in the north to Yolanda Santana in La Yagüita in the south, serving 4 stations.


Line 1 was opened for limited trial service in March 2024, with all day trial service starting at the end of the month and commercial operations beginning April 2024. Line 1 is owned by the government of the Dominican Republic and operated by the Sistema Integrado de Transporte (SIT).
