Overview - 012 SKNBExpressen
SKNBExpressen offers only the best when it comes to exceptional bus service and meticulously crafted communities. We aim to provide thorough local services within cities and direct services between major urban hubs, all while developing towns such that everyone lives within a close walk of our stations.
Design Methodology
Building off of the Trunk Routes Standards used in map 011, the one in 012 returns to a simpler layout that prioritizes efficiency - all services are fully segregated, with one tile in each direction for each service, using JGRPP to optimize capacity throughput at stations along the de-facto single directional loops. Local lines act purely as feeders, never doing long runs that result in horrid bunching far from the towns they are focused at. And indeed, this map had me designing the layout of every single town and city with infrastructure built in from the very beginning, allowing the cities to expand into areas that already had stations provisioned.
For this map, towns were not allowed to build roads (as I was using segregated busways) and a 2x2 layout was in use to allow for absolute standardization of where into the grid the busways slotted. Trunk stations were 5x2 and feeder stations were 2x2, aligning to the grid, and trunk lines effectively avoided city centers.
In the end, while this map ended up being very interesting as a concept, the need to micromanage city planning and feeders proved to make the experience mildly aggravating and so the map didn't last as long as hoped due to it getting very repetitive very quickly. Probably didn't help that I was using a coordinate conversion guide to create a 1:1 correspondence between my map and the actual OpenTTD grid, which got REALLY tedious for all of those feeder stations!
