Overview - Maracaibo

Located on the west side of Lake Maracaibo, Maracaibo is the capital of Zulia and the second largest city by population in Venezuela. It has approximately 1,788,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2020. The Maracaibo metropolitan area comprised 2,356,959 residents as of the 2020 INE census estimate.


Maracaibo's rapid transit network consists of a single MCS metro service.

Maracaibo Metro

Opened 2009, the Maracaibo Metro consists of a single MCS metro service that serves the city of Maracaibo, Zulia.

Line 1 (Línea 1)

Line 1 of the Maracaibo Metro is a MCS metro service on an East-West alignment. It runs from Altos de La Vanega in the west to Libertador in the east along Calle 100, serving 6 stations.


Line 1 was opened for commercial service in June 2009.
