Overview - Guayaquil

Located on the Guayas River, Guayaquil (Santiago de Guayaquil) is the capital of Guayas and the largest city by population in Ecuador. It has approximately 2,698,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2019. The Guayaquil metropolitan area comprised 3,113,725 residents as of the 2019 INEC census estimate.


Guayaquil's rapid transit network consists of four bus rapid transit services and a gondola lift service.

Metrovía

Opened 2006, Metrovía consists of four bus rapid transit services that serve the city of Guayaquil, Guayas and the surrounding suburbs.

Troncal 1 - Guasmo-Río Daule

Metrovía Troncal 1 is a bus rapid transit service on a North-South alignment. It runs from Río Daule in the north to Guasmo in the south, serving 37 station platforms of which 24 are in a single direction only.


Troncal 1 was opened in July 2006. Troncal 1 is owned by the Fundación de Transporte Masivo Urbano de Guayaquil and operated by MetroQuil.

Troncal 2 - 25 de Julio-Río Daule

Metrovía Troncal 2 consists of two bus rapid transit services on a North-South alignment. The local service runs from Río Daule in the north to 25 de Julio in the south, serving 32 station platforms of which 16 are in a single direction only. The express service bypasses the southern terminal and serves 13 additional stations.


Troncal 2 was opened in February 2012 and recent expansions focus on new stations for the express service in the south of the city. Troncal 2 is owned by the Fundación de Transporte Masivo Urbano de Guayaquil and operated by MetroExpress.

Troncal 3 - Bastión Popular-Centro

Metrovía Troncal 3 is a bus rapid transit service on a Northwest-Southeast alignment. It runs from Bastión Popular in the northwest to the city center in the southeast, serving 27 stations of which two in the city center are in a single direction only.


Troncal 3 was opened in May 2008. Troncal 3 is owned by the Fundación de Transporte Masivo Urbano de Guayaquil and operated by MetroBastión.

Aerovía

Opened 2020, Aerovía consists of a gondola lift service that connects the cities of Guayaquil and Durán, Guayas.

Aerovía

Aerovía is a gondola lift service on an East-West alignment. It runs from Parque Centenario in the west to Durán in the east across the Guayas River, service 5 stations.


Aerovía was opened in December 2020.
