Overview - Caracas
Separated from the Caribbean coast by the Cordillera de la Costa Centra, Caracas (Santiago de León de Caracas) is the capital of and the largest city by population in Venezuela. It has approximately 2,246,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2017. The Caracas metropolitan area comprised 3,273,863 residents as of the 2013 INE census estimate, not including the other metropolitan areas connected to the city.
Caracas's rapid transit network consists of five metro lines with four services, a bus rapid transit service, a people mover service, and two gondola lift services. It also has a commuter rail service.
Caracas Metro
Opened 1983, Caracas Metro consists of five metro lines served by four services that serve the city of Caracas, Venezuela and the surrounding suburbs.
Line 1 (Línea 1)
Line 1 of the Caracas Metro is a metro service on an East-West alignment. It runs from Propatria in the west to Palo Verde in the east via downtown Caracas, serving 22 stations.
Line 1 was opened in January 1983 and the last extension to the line was to Palo Verde in November 1989. Line 1 is owned by the Government of Venezuela and operated by C. A. Metro de Caracas.
Lines 2, 4, and 5 (Líneas 2, 4, y 5)
Line 2 of the Caracas Metro is a metro line on a North-South alignment. It runs from Las Adjuntas and Zoológico in the south to El Silencio in the north, serving 13 stations.
Lines 4 and 5 of the Caracas Metro are metro lines on an East-West alignment. Line 4 runs from Capuchinos in the west to Zona Rental in the east, serving 5 stations. Line 5 acts as a continuation of Line 4, running from Zona Rental in the west to Bello Monte in the east, serving 2 stations.
While service patterns have changed multiple times in the past, Line 5 acts as an extension of Line 4, and Line 4 trains either terminate at Capuchinos or through run along Line 2 to Las Adjuntas.
Line 2 was opened in October 1987 and the last extension to the line was to El Silencio in November 1988. Line 4 was opened in July 2006. Line 5 was opened in November 2015. Lines 2, 4, and 5 is owned by the Government of Venezuela and operated by C. A. Metro de Caracas.
Line 3 (Línea 3)
Line 3 of the Caracas Metro is a metro service on a North-South alignment. It runs from La Rinconada in the south to Plaza Venezuela in the north, serving 9 stations.
Line 3 was opened in December 1994 and the last extension to the line was the opening of intermediate stations between El Valle and La Rinconada in January 2010. Line 1 is owned by the Government of Venezuela and operated by C. A. Metro de Caracas.
BusCaracas
Opened 2012, BusCaracas, part of the Caracas Metro, consists of a bus rapid transit service that serves the city of Caracas, Venezuela and the surrounding suburbs.
Line 7 (Línea 7)
Line 7 of the Caracas Metro (BusCaracas) is a bus rapid transit service on a North-Southeast alignment. It runs from Las Flores in the north to Los Ilustres in the southeast, serving 11 stations along Avenida Fuerzas Armadas and Avenida Nueva Granada.
Line 7 was opened in October 2012. Line 7 is operated by C. A. Metro de Caracas.
Cabletrén
Cabletrén Bolivariano
The Cabletrén Bolivariano is a people mover (intended as a light metro but never completed) service on a North-Southeast alignment. It runs from 5 de Abril in the north to Petare in the south, serving 3 stations along Troncal 9.
The Cabletrén Bolivariano was opened in August 2013. The Cabletrén Bolivariano is owned and operated by C. A. Metro de Caracas.
MetroCable
Opened 2010, MetroCable consists of two gondola lift services that serves the city of Caracas, Venezuela and the surrounding suburbs.
MetroCable San Agustín
MetroCable San Agustín is a gondola lift service on a U-shaped alignment. It runs from San Agustín in the west to Parque Central in the east, serving 5 stations.
MetroCable San Agustín was opened in January 2010. MetroCable San Agustín is operated by C. A. Metro de Caracas.
MetroCable Mariche
MetroCable Mariche is a gondola lift service on a northwest-southeast alignment. It runs from Palo Verde in the northwest to Mariche in the southeast, serving 2 stations.
MetroCable Mariche was opened in December 2012. MetroCable Mariche is operated by C. A. Metro de Caracas.
Red Tuy Medio
Line 1 (Línea 1)
The Ferrocarril Tuy Medio is a commuter rail service on a Northwest-South alignment. It runs from La Rinconada (Caracas) in the northwest to Cúa in the south, serving 4 stations.
The Ferrocarril Tuy Medio was opened in October 2006. The Ferrocarril Tuy Medio is owned and operated by IAFE.
