Overview - Madison

Located between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona, Madison is the capital of and the second largest city by population in Wisconsin. It has approximately 280,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2023. The Madison metropolitan area comprised 694,345 residents as of the 2023 US Census Bureau Estimate.


Madison's rapid transit network consists of a single bus rapid transit line.

Metro Rapid

Opened 2024, Metro Rapid consists of a bus rapid transit line that serves the city of Madison, Wisconsin.

Route A (East-West Bus Rapid Transit)

Metro Rapid Route A is a bus rapid transit service on a East-West alignment. It runs from Junction in the west to East Springs in the east before branching off to serve two branches, serving 32 stations. It runs primarily along University Ave and East Washington Ave. Routes B and F share part of the BRT infrastructure and are effectively full bus rapid transit (although Metro Transit does not fully consider them to be bus rapid transit yet).


Metro Rapid Route A was opened in September 2024.
