Overview - Detroit

Located on the Detroit River across from Windsor, Canada, Detroit is the seat of Wayne County and the largest city by population in Michigan. It has approximately 673,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2018. The Detroit metropolitan area (Detroit-Warren-Dearborn) comprised 4,326,442 residents as of the 2018 US Census Bureau Estimate.


Detroit's rapid transit network consists of a downtown people mover service. It also has a modern streetcar service.

Detroit People Mover

Detroit People Mover

The Detroit People Mover is a people mover service on a loop alignment. It runs through downtown Detroit clockwise (counterclockwise as of March 1, 2020), serving 13 stations. Times Square and Cadillac Center stations are currently suspended as of May 2022.


The Detroit People Mover was opened in 1987. The Detroit People Mover is operated by the Detroit Transportation Corporation.

Detroit Streetcar

QLine (Woodward Ave Streetcar)

The QLine is a modern streetcar service on a north-south alignment. It runs from Grand Blvd and the Detroit Amtrak station in the north to Congress St in downtown Detroit in the south along Woodward Avenue, serving 12 stops.


The QLine was opened in May 2017. The QLine is owned by M-1 Rail.
