Overview - Brasília
Located on the artificial Paranoá Lake, Brasília is the capital of and the third largest city by population in Brazil. It has approximately 3,039,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2017. The Brasília metropolitan area comprised 4,291,577 residents as of the 2017 IBGE census estimate.
Brasília's rapid transit network consists of two metro services and two bus rapid transit lines.
Metrô DF
Opened 1998, the Brasília Metro (Metrô DF) consists of two metro services that serve the city of Brasília and the western suburbs.
Green Line (Linha Verde)
The Green Line of Metrô DF is a metro service on an East-West alignment. It runs from Ceilândia in the west to Central in the east via Terminal Asa Sul, serving 23 stations of which most are shared with the Orange Line.
The Green Line was opened in August 1998 and the last extension to the line was the opening of 106 and 100 Sul in September 2020. The Green Line is operated by Companhia do Metropolitano do Distrito Federal (Metrô-DF).
Orange Line (Linha Laranja)
The Orange Line of Metrô DF is a metro service on an East-West alignment. It runs from Samambaia in the west to Central in the east via Terminal Asa Sul, serving 18 stations of which most are shared with the Green Line.
The Orange Line was opened in August 1998 and the last extension to the line was the opening of 106 and 100 Sul in September 2020. The Orange Line is operated by Companhia do Metropolitano do Distrito Federal (Metrô-DF).
Expresso DF
Opened 2012, Brasília's BRT network consists of two bus rapid transit lines that serve the city of Brasília and the southern suburbs.
Eixo Oeste (EPTG)
The West Axis along the Estrada Parque Taguatinga-Guará is a bus rapid transit line on an East-West alignment. It runs from Estrada Parque in the west to EPIA in the east, serving 15 stations. Stations do not have names.
The West Axis was opened in 2012.
Eixo Sul (Expresso DF Sul)
Expresso DF Sul is a bus rapid transit line on a North-South alignment. It runs from Terminal Gama and Terminal Santa Maria in the south to Terminal Rodoviária do Plano Piloto in the north, serving 10 stations along the busway (not including the TRPP).
Expresso DF Sul was opened in 2014, with some stations opening afterwards.
